However, is software that is installed directly on your computer. The software monitors all inbound and outbound Internet traffic, and creates a software barrier between the Internet port on your PC and everything else on your PC. Once installed, lets you escape to the Internet, but does not allow unauthorised access the Internet on your PC. Software firewalls have an advantage insofar as they may apply rigid controls on what the software installed on your PC can access the Internet.
